Physical Disability Awareness Day 2025

This Sunday, 2 February, is Physical Disability Awareness Day. Established by Physical Disability Australia in 2023, it’s a day to raise awareness of the many conditions under the umbrella of physical disability and to recognise the valuable contributions people with disability make across all areas of life. For Global Skills, it’s an opportunity to highlight the positive impact people with disability have in the workforce and to advocate for inclusive and accessible work environments.

In 2022, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported that over 75% of Australians with a disability face a physical condition as their primary challenge. Despite this, only 56.1% of working-age Australians with a disability are in employment, compared to 82.3% of those without a disability. This presents a wonderful opportunity for employers to tap into a diverse talent pool and potentially find the ideal candidate for their roles.

As an employer, you likely value more than just technical skills – qualities like creativity, adaptability, problem-solving and critical thinking are just as important. That’s why Global Skills encourages you to consider hiring people with disability. They bring not only a wide range of skills and qualifications but also unique life experiences, offering fresh ideas and innovative solutions. Studies have shown that diverse teams are more creative, productive and competitive.

Global Skills Disability Employment Services (DES) can help your business connect with this diverse talent pool. Our free, professional recruitment service supports you at every stage – from attracting the right candidates to ensuring workplace accessibility and providing ongoing support.
