Congratulations to Natelina on finding long-term employment in a role she calls her “dream job,” where she feels 100% happy.
Natelina, a participant from Global Skills Wetherill Park, joined the program at age 53 after several years caring for her mum. Ready to return to work, she felt uncertain about how her age and time away from the workforce might be viewed. She was looking for something local and suited to her strengths and had a clear idea of what she wanted.
Her Employment Consultant, Farzana, took the time to understand her goals and, through Global Skills Marketer Piya, introduced her to a kitchen role at a local café situated within a play centre. After a successful interview, Natelina was offered the job, which turned out to be a great fit.
“I was worried they might prefer someone younger, but the interview went really well and the job turned out to be perfect for me,” Natelina recalls.
For Natelina, one of the best parts of the job is the connection she has built with the community.
“I meet new people every day. You get to know the children and their parents. I have seen the children and their families grow.”
Speaking about her work, Natelina shares how positive her experience has been with both her employer and her co-workers. “I feel valued,” she says. “I have always been shown appreciation and treated with respect. I really enjoy working with the team. We all get along well and help each other out.”
She also shared her gratitude for the support she received from Farzana throughout her journey. “A very big thank you to Farzana for helping me on my path to finding my dream job. She booked all my courses and helped me get the job I wanted. She helped with my Food Safety Supervisor Certificate, First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Check. She also organised petrol vouchers and asked me what else I needed. She was lovely.”
When asked what advice she would give to other mature job seekers, Natelina said, “Don’t let age stop you. You have so much to offer. Younger workers often come to me for advice. We all learn from each other.”
Congratulations again, Natelina, from the entire team at Global Skills. Thank you for generously sharing your story.
