Congratulations Kerry!

Congratulations to Kerry, who recently reached her 6-month milestone in two local roles she genuinely enjoys.

Kerry, 55, connected with Global Skills Picton in October 2024 after needing to find a new role for the first time in her working life, now wanting to move away from her long history within the security industry.

Kerry was highly proactive, applying for 20 to 30 jobs each week. With the support of our Employment Consultants, Brittany and Charlene, she navigated Services Australia requirements, accessed financial support when needed, updated her RSA and enrolled in relevant training.

When Kerry saw a lifeguard role advertised online, she took the initiative to speak directly with the pool supervisor, completed her lifesaving certificate, and began working over the summer. A short time later, she identified a vacancy for a courtesy bus driver at a local Inn. The role offered a few evening hours each week, which Kerry could manage alongside her pool job. She applied straight away, delivered her resume in person, and was offered the position soon after.

As her pool hours decreased at the end of summer, Kerry spoke with her manager at the Inn about taking on more work. Having already been helping with customer service between bus runs, she was offered three additional shifts in the pub in addition to her driving duties.

Reflecting on the past six months, Kerry said, “While I may have found the jobs, it was the background support that made all the difference. The financial support for the courses and encouragement made me determined to pass my courses.”

Congratulations Kerry from the entire team at Global Skills and thank you for generously sharing your story.
