Congratulations to Josh, a Transition to Work participant from The Entrance, on reaching some great milestones: 6 months in employment, obtaining his driver’s licence, and beginning a Business course at TAFE NSW.
After leaving school in Year 11 last year, Josh joined Global Skills and met his Employment Consultant, Hanna. He wanted to gain work experience, build confidence, and obtain his driver’s licence. Already holding his Learner’s Permit, he completed 10 driving lessons through Barra Barang, one of Global Skills’ driving school partners, and passed his Provisional Licence on the first attempt.
Josh shared, “I’m thankful for the lessons through Barra Barang. They helped me pass my P’s on the first try. I don’t think I’d be able to get around easily without my licence. It opens a lot more job opportunities because employers are more likely to hire you if you can get there on your own.”
Josh also gained employment when a local labour hire company contacted Global Skills looking for staff. Having worked hard through Global Skills to complete his Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations, he was keen to take on the opportunity. Josh secured work in the Warehousing Industry and received support from Hanna with work clothes and transport. He has since completed further training and gained his Forklift Licence.
Now 6 months into work, Josh said, “I enjoy working. I’ve been able to save money and hope to buy a car soon. I’ve started studying for a Certificate III in Business to learn more and keep building my skills for work.”
He added, “I’d like to thank Hanna, who has always been there to listen and support me, and Rachel, who has also been a big help. Everyone at Global Skills is very supportive and always willing to help where they can.”
Reflecting on his progress, Josh said, “When I first left school, I had very little work experience. Now, after 6 months in work, earning my licence, and starting my course, I feel really positive about my future.”
Congratulations again, Josh, and thank you for sharing your story.
