Congratulations to Global Skills Transition to Work Job Seeker Schaneka on completing the training component of the Building Lady Tradies program with thanks to Construction Trade Qualifications (CTQ) and Central Coast Group Training (CCGT).

Schaneka, 20, has been with Global Skills Lake Haven since May 2023 and said, “Kate my Employment Consultant, is absolutely lovely. She has helped me so much with everything. She encouraged me to do an initial 6 day construction course with CTQ and I found it really eye opening. I was then keen to enrol in the Building Lady Tradies program.”

The program focuses on all aspects of the construction industry with real trade like experiences and career guidance. Together, the group built a cubby house for Ronald McDonald House.

Over the past 4 weeks, Shaneka has expanded her knowledge in construction, honed her practical skills and gained a deeper understanding of the industry and really enjoyed it. On her last day of training Shaneka said, “I absolutely love the course. All the building skills we’ve learnt together and we all just help each other out. Today, we finished the cubby house and it’s awesome.”

Schaneka will undertake 2 weeks work experience to gain her Statement of Attainment qualification and begin a Certificate II in Construction as the first step in her plan for her future, “After doing this course I feel like I now have a definite plan for my future. It’s no longer just up in the air. On Friday I will begin a Certificate II in Construction through CTQ. I want to earn a trade qualification in carpentry or electrical and then I’m going to start my own business. I’m thinking maybe electrical because I’m good with maths. I’ve always wanted to do work with the rail system. I am gaining knowledge and skills now that will help me reach this goal. If I become an electrical fitter that will help. A mechanical fitter is also on the tables.”
