Denis, 49, joined Global Skills Baulkham Hills earlier this year. He had a background in the Manufacturing industry and had been self-employed for several years in a different industry. With the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacting many small businesses, Denis eventually made the decision to go back to salaried employment.

With Global Skills support, Denis started his job search. In August he located a job in a small town on the outskirts of Orange NSW and was very interested. He was more than willing to locate but soon found he needed support to make the move. He explains, “Global Skills was very helpful. I was supported with travel costs to attend a face-to-face interview then, as the job was a combined position of Manufacturing and Warehouse Manager, the company mentioned it would be beneficial for me to obtain a Forklift Licence. Global Skills helped me get my licence, I was offered the job and the company asked me to start in 3 weeks. It was a very short time to get organised. When I looked at my options regarding my furniture, whether to sell my furniture and buy new when I got there or try to move it, I found both options way more expensive than I had anticipated. I didn’t know how I was going to make this work then Global Skills offered to pay for a removalist. This support meant I was able to take up the position. I was so happy and I still am. My job is awesome and the people here are awesome. With a town of just over 500 people, it’s very different from Sydney but I love it.
