Congratulations to Wetherill Park participant Jamila on reaching her 6-month employment milestone after joining Global Skills’ Inclusive Employment Australia program in November 2025.
When Jamila met her Employment Consultant, Christine, she explained what she was looking for. “I have a lot of skills that I want to use in the community, but I don’t have a lot of energy and get tired quickly,” she said.
With qualifications in counselling and community work, Jamila felt a support worker role would suit her. She identified Your Local Care Partner as an employer of interest. With Christine’s support, she secured an interview and was offered the role. “They were happy to interview me based on my skillset and could offer the flexibility I need,” Jamila said.
Jamila has found the role a good fit. “My clients are lovely and my role has a lot of variety,” she said. “Whatever the client wants to do, I do with them.” She has also brought her creative skills into her work, teaching sewing, flower arranging and jewellery making.
Flexibility has been key. “I mostly work in the mornings as my energy runs out by the afternoon,” she said. “I work hard and do as much as I can with my energy.”
Jamila also acknowledged the support she received. “Global Skills helped with my first aid certificate, checks, travel and clothes,” she said. “Christine has been a wonderful emotional support and reached out to the employer on my behalf.”
Jennifer Sharkey, Business Development Manager at Your Local Care Partner, praised the positive contribution Jamila has made to the team. “We are delighted to have someone like Jamila working with us. She genuinely cares about the people she supports and brings a wonderful range of skills to her role.”
Congratulations again, Jamila, and thank you for sharing your story.
