Congratulations Jaycob!

Today, April 2, is World Autism Awareness Day, a time to promote inclusion and an opportunity to celebrate Jaycob securing a role he’s passionate about.

Jaycob joined Global Skills Narellan at the start of our Inclusive Employment Contract in November of last year. He met his Employment Consultant, Andrew, and it quickly became clear that Jaycob had a real love for trucks.

Together, Andrew and Jaycob explored truck-related businesses in the area. Jaycob mentioned that he often visited Moore Truck Parts and had connected with the business via social media, as he is well known locally for his RC truck. Jaycob explains, “The owner knew me from what I do. I walk around my area with my RC truck, and people recognise me in the community.”

Andrew suggested that Jaycob use this network to inquire about job opportunities. Jaycob recalls, “I went to his business for a part for my truck. While I was there, I asked the person working if they were hiring. He said he would speak to the boss, Peter Moore, which he did. They then set up a job interview for me. Andrew helped me prepare for the interview, and I got the job.”

“My role involves picking truck parts and shipping them where they need to go. I also stock shelves and assist with other tasks as needed. I had a job washing trucks, and I enjoyed it, but something was missing. In this job, I feel completely fulfilled. Nothing is lacking. it’s the perfect job for me.”

Jaycob adds, “The people I work with are 100 per cent lovely. My boss has experience supporting individuals with Autism, which makes it easier for me. He understands me. My favourite part of the job is picking truck parts, being around trucks, and the company itself. Everything about it is the best.”

Jaycob also gives a special shout-out to Andrew: “Andrew has been awesome. He has reassured me, explained things clearly, and taken the time to listen. He has been very helpful throughout this process.”

Peter Moore, the proprietor of Moore Truck Parts, currently employs three people with disability. He shared, “I have a deep understanding of Autism, with a grandson who has profound Autism and a son with a profound intellectual disability. For more than 20 years, I have been committed to providing employment opportunities for people with disability.”

Congratulations again, Jaycob, and thank you for generously sharing your story.
