Congratulations to Global Skills Liverpool participant Ashley on reaching her 6-month employment milestone and being shortlisted for a NSW State Training Award.
Ashley joined Global Skills in 2023 and met her Employment Consultant, Asiya. With experience in packaging and machine operating, she had long been interested in working in mental health or disability services but did not believe that pathway was open to her.
“I’ve always wanted to work in an area where I could help others,” Ashley said. “But I didn’t think I could complete further study because I didn’t finish school. Asiya said I could. She opened options for me that I didn’t know were available.”
Through a referral to ARC Training, Ashley completed her Certificate III in Individual Support Disability. She found the face-to-face training supportive and encouraging, with trainers who explained everything clearly and helped build her confidence.
After finishing her course, ARC Training connected her with opportunities. She applied for a role with Team Rogue, attended an interview and was successful.
“Working at Team Rogue is great,” she said. “They have been really helpful with training and I learn a lot from the more experienced staff. I work in a day program and love spending time with participants of all different abilities and backgrounds, supporting them and making a difference in their lives. Team Rogue show genuine care, compassion and empathy towards the people they care for. It is exactly the type of work I was looking for.”
Now 6 months into her role, Ashley has also been nominated and shortlisted for the NSW Smart and Skilled State Training Award. ARC Training recognised her commitment, dedication and positive attitude throughout her studies.
“I’m speechless about my award nomination. I’ve been shortlisted and I’m going for an interview soon.”
Ashley also acknowledged Asiya’s support with interview preparation, along with clothing, shoes, car expenses, First Aid Certificate and fuel to help her attend interviews and start work feeling prepared. She added, “Global Skills assigned me the right person who not only has the experience but also understood my situation with empathy and compassion. Asiya explained everything that I needed to know to achieve my goals.”
Team Rogue’s Day Program Coordinator Roimata Marsh commented, “Ashley has become a wonderful part of the Team Rogue family. She brings a positive attitude, kindness and genuine care to the people we support, and she consistently shows the values that are important to our team.
“She has fit in naturally with both staff and participants and is always reliable and willing to help wherever needed. We are grateful to have Ashley on our team and appreciate the difference she makes every day.”
Congratulations again, Ashley, from the entire Global Skills team. We wish you every success and look forward to hearing how your interview goes.
