Congratulations to Fairfield participant Colin on reaching 6 months of employment after successfully transferring his skills into a new industry.
Colin joined Global Skills in February, shortly after relocating from a country town in NSW to Sydney. After Colins relocation, he met his Employment Consultant, Youssef.
Reflecting on his journey, Colin shared, “Not long after I moved, I was connected to Global Skills and started working with Youssef. One day in early May (Thursday), I went into their office at Fairfield and Youssef said to me, ‘I’ve just had an email from a company around the corner; they’re looking for a General Manager.’ We made the phone call to the CEO that day, and I was so excited. I met with him the next day (Friday), and by Monday I was walking into my new job.”
Colin’s new role is in the Disability Support Sector, an industry completely new to him.
“I’d never had any experience in disability support, so it was all new to me,” he said. “I’ve worked in management before, so I just needed to adapt those skills to this new field. I really enjoy it. I love working with people, I love the responsibility, and I enjoy working with the CEO and the rest of the team, they’re all fantastic. I’m very grateful. I’ve learnt so much about disability, and every day I learn something new.”
Colin also expressed his appreciation for the support he received from Global Skills:
“Youssef has looked after me so well. He kept in touch regularly, even after I started the job, to make sure everything was going smoothly and to see if I needed anything. He helped me get my First Aid Certificate, work clothes, and other essentials to get started. He was there to support me from start to finish.”
Congratulations again, Colin, from the entire Global Skills team and thank you for sharing your story.
