Congratulations to Global Skills participants Edward, Matthew and Rolf on successfully completing a 9-week Barista Work Ready Course, thanks to a collaboration between Catholic Care and Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College (HKCC).
Delivered at Dom’s Place in Hornsby, the program supported people in the community to develop the skills needed to work in this industry and build connections within the community.
Participants gained hands-on experience and completed several accredited units. These covered important skills such as food safety, using equipment correctly, managing time and tasks effectively, providing quality customer service, and preparing and serving coffee.
A big thank you to Woolworths Hornsby for kindly donating milk and coffee beans each week to support the training.
One of the participants, Rolf, commented, “The training was excellent, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The trainers were amazing. This opportunity has given me more confidence and put me back on track to where I want to go. I’m putting my application together to enrol in a counselling course soon and working as a Barista will help support me through my studies.”
Global Skills Community Engagement Consultant Robert added, “This was a brilliant pilot project. We received some amazing feedback from participants including a keen interest in working in the hospitality industry. Whether participants gain employment or continue with further studies, they can use the credited units and experience to support future pathways.”
