Congratulations Alanah!

Congratulations to Alanah, 24, who has now been working in the disability sector for 10 months and has settled into her new career.

Alana transitioned from casual work at a local supermarket to a disability support role, inspired by her passion for supporting people with disability.

Alanah shared, “I hadn’t worked in the disability sector before, but I was really keen to move into this field. I’ve been involved in caring for a person with a disability, and it made me realise that I would really enjoy going out into the community to support more individuals.”

When Alanah was connected with her Employment Consultant Zoe, in July last year, she shared her interest in working in the disability sector. With Zoe’s support, Alanah enrolled in a Certificate II in Disability, which she successfully completed.

Shortly after, Alanah applied for a role at Sunnyfield Disability Services. Following a successful interview, she began working in the organisation’s day program, supporting people with intellectual disability.

“My favourite part of the job is the clients. They are all amazing. We do lots of fun activities that help them connect with the community and build valuable life skills. I can’t believe I get paid to do a job I really enjoy. I definitely want to stay in the disability sector long term. Sunnyfield is really supportive. Through training, my knowledge and skills are constantly improving and staying up to date. The work we do is client-centred and Sunnyfield really looks after their staff too. The managers are great,” Alanah said.

She also reflected on the support she received. “I would like to thank Zoe for all her help. She always made me feel comfortable to talk about anything and to ask for the support I needed, including help with my course, work clothing, work checks and petrol assistance to get to work. Global Skills supported me to reskill and get into the career I wanted. I’m very grateful to have had a support system like that.”

Well done Alanah on reaching this milestone and building a career where you can make a real difference.
