World Mental Health Day 2023

Today, 10 October, is World Mental Health Day.

In reference to the 2023 theme, ‘Mental health is a universal human right’, the World Health Organisation states, “Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community.”

Global Skills maintains an inclusive and supportive environment for our job seekers, staff and employers and offers a range of resources and tools to support wellbeing and mental health in the workplace.

Our job seekers have access to professional mental health services which are free, confidential and always available. Staff across several of our teams have their MHFA Certificate and all our staff provide mental health support to our job seekers via regular check-ins and connection to appropriate mental health support services and resources including GSPlus. Delivered in partnership with Uniting NSW/ACT, GSPlus offers quick and free access to a range of qualified allied health professionals, including registered psychologists, via phone or video. Our young people on the Central Coast also have access to professional counselling services including telehealth and face-to-face appointments via our partnership with CatholicCare.

Global Skills staff have access to a professional, free, confidential counselling service through our Employee Assistance Program and our supportive management team are available at all times.

Global Skills works with employers to provide support for employees with mental health challenges. We provide appropriate support in the workplace and work with employers to accommodate mental health conditions. We also play a role in educating employers on the benefits of hiring employees with mental health conditions.
