Take 5 with Global Skills Senior Employment Consultant Jaymy Thurlow

Global Skills is incredibly proud of our diverse team of values-aligned people and invite you to meet them in our Take 5 series.

This week, we took 5 minutes out of Senior Employment Consultant Jaymy Thurlow’s busy day and asked her a few questions to help you get to know her.

Jaymy has been working in the Employment Services sector for 12 years and is a much-valued part of our Global Skills Gosford team.

Q. What do you do at Global Skills?
A. I partner with job seekers, including our Indigenous job seekers, to reach their employment goals by supporting individual needs. As a Senior Employment Consultant, I also support our Employment Consultants where needed.

Q. What do you enjoy about the work you do?
A. Connecting with a diverse range of people and making a difference in our community. I also like the variety of every day being different.

Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A. I wanted to be a real estate agent when I was young then fell into this industry. I love it and that’s why I am still here.

Q. What’s a typical work day like for you?
A. There is no typical day really. Every day is different, which is one of the things I love about this industry. It’s very busy which I also like. I get in early and just go.

Q. What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?
A. In my 12 years in Employment Services I have worked in a wide range of roles. I have built an excellent well-rounded Employment Services skill set including the skills to work with a diverse range of people.

Q. What have you learnt in previous jobs and your past experience that helps you in your current job?
A. I have had a lot of experience partnering with Indigenous job seekers over the years. This experience definitely helps in my current role. I have learnt that every person’s journey is different. That’s why it’s important to tailor support.

Q. Best thing about being part of the Global Skills Team?
A. My co-workers. We all support each other and work well as a team. I enjoy coming to work.
