October marks Down Syndrome Awareness Month. A time to celebrate people with Down syndrome and an opportunity for Global Skills to advocate diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Like all job seekers, each person with Down syndrome has a unique set of interests, knowledge and skills that they can bring to the workplace, yet statistics show that people with Down syndrome are much more likely to be unemployed or underemployed compared to their peers. This month Global Skills stands with Down Syndrome NSW in declaring, “People with Down syndrome deserve to be valued and included members of society.”
Global Skills actively promotes diversity to prospective employers to ensure our job seekers find the right support and jobs to suit them. Through our Disability Employment Services (DES), Global Skills connects people with disability, illness or injury with employers who are looking to diversity their workforce. Our team provides ongoing support to the employee and employer as well necessary resources to ensure long-term employment success.
To support Down Syndrome NSW this month, head to their annual ‘Step UP! For Down Syndrome NSW’ event on 22 October 2023. Step UP! for Down Syndrome NSW is an annual event held in the beautiful setting of The Domain Sydney. This heartwarming and inclusive gathering brings together individuals, families, and communities to raise awareness and support for people with Down syndrome. The day includes a joyful 2km walk followed by food, drinks, performances, kids’ fun activities, market stalls and much more!
