Payge's Story

“I love kids. They always have a way of bringing joy and making you laugh because they say so many random things.”

In February 2021, job seeker Payge gained full-time employment with the Centre of Learning Childcare Centre in Canley Vale.

“I would like to thank Mira and the staff at Global Skills Liverpool for all their hard work and dedication to help me achieve my career goals – a role in childcare. I love my job and enjoy going to work every day.”

The eldest of nine children, Payge says she has always been good with kids.

“I’ve always had kids around. I have eight siblings. My mum always said I was great with them. My Mum worked in a Before and After School Care and I’d go to help when I was in high school. I was then offered a traineeship.”

Payge completed a Cert III Early Childhood at age 16, through a school-based traineeship.

Between the ages of 16 and 20, Payge struggled to sustain work.

In June 2020, aged 21, Payge joined Global Skills.

“My neighbour recommended Global Skills as an employment service. When I went to Centrelink, I asked to be connected with them. I was connected with Mira and from the beginning she was very supportive. The thing I love the most about her is she actually cares about my mental health.”

Mira supported Payge to become work ready, including the required update of her CPR/First Aid Certificate. Payge was then referred to our partner employer, Centre for Learning and successfully passed both an interview and job trial.

Payge says, “Working with children gives me a sense of purpose. I have a great sense of responsibility teaching them at such an impressionable and important age. Toilet training, tying shoelaces, just seeing the look on their faces when they finally achieve doing it themselves. You can only get that feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment from kids.”

Paige has recently been offered a traineeship with Centre for Learning and will complete a Diploma in Early Childhood Education over the next two years.

The Director of the Centre of Learning expressed thanks to Mira and the Global skills team for referring Payge to their centre.

Congratulations Payge.
