MENTAL HEALTH WEEK PROMOTION

What Is It?

Mental Health Week NSW is part of a national mental health promotion campaign held in early October each year. The week is funded by NSW Health.

Its main aim is to promote social and emotional wellbeing to the population in this state - encouraging people to maximise their health potential, enhancing the coping capacity of communities, families, individuals, and increasing mental health literacy.

Mental Health Week 2009 marks the second stage in the Mental Health Association's three year mental health promotion campaign "Building Resilience".

2009 "Sign up, Link in, Get involved"

This year, our focus is on "Sign up, Link in, Get involved" - promoting the importance of getting involved and interacting with other members of our community, as well as local clubs, organisations and services. Creating and strengthening these links, such as joining a men's shed or a sporting club, can be a useful resource to draw on during both the good and the tough times. Getting involved is another way we can build our resilience and create a richer, more connected and meaningful life.

Head Office would like to congratulate the offices to the FANTASTIC job and effort put in from each office. It was an ABSOLUTE pleasure to attend the offices and see the information and energy put in by all staff to assist in Awareness of Mental Health.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY LINKS PROJECT

Global Skills and our clients proudly participated within the "Strengthening Community Links Project" currently being run by the Penrith Disabilities Resource Centre.

"Strengthening Community Links" focuses on issues that are relevant to people with disabilities, their carers and also their service providers who live in, or provide services to, any of the three local government areas of Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury.

The project looks at three major areas:

• The coordination of service delivery for people with disabilities and how can be improved
• Ways to improve service access for isolated communities i.e. those in outlying areas or those who may have difficulty accessing services for cultural reasons
• Supporting existing disability services who are interested in building onto existing services and/or develop new networks.

CARBON EMISSIONS FOOTPRINT

Global Skills had engaged Optimal Business Solutions Consulting Pty Ltd in partnership with Greenice Pty Ltd to complete a full life cycles analysis of its carbon emissions footprint. The analysis represents the first stage of Global Skills commitment to embrace sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices.

The analysis will identify the sources of its embedded carbon emissions within its operations and across its entire supply chain. The robustness of the methodology, the framework, which complies with the Greenhouse Friendly™ program, will enable Global Skills to embark on a targeted and managed process of reducing its carbon footprint.
